Valencia CF Mestalla tried to play their typical possession football to match the opposition momentum and intensity in the early goings of the match and soon enough, Carlos González gave VCF Mestalla the breakthrough with a great solo move coming off the left wing to drill it home beyond Lucas Parra with a right-footed effort just six minutes into the first half.
The opening goal provided respite to VCF Mestalla when on the ball. However, the opposition relentlessness continued through direct long balls into the box without creating any clear-cut chances for either side.
